this is more realistic than if he were to become a different person overnight... he's trying and keeps failing cuz he doesn't know any better. Even if his intentions are good his execution always fails. He never learned the proper way to show affection or kindess.. lived his whole life focused on survival and becoming rich to the point that he lost sight of everything else. obviously, all the money and fame in the world couldn't heal the child inside him that was desperate to live and hated the world. but now he's trying! this situation with Dan is forcing him to be more human, and I like that it wasn't an immediate 180. By slowly trying to mend his relationship with Dan, we get to see his development and progress as a person. It'd be strange for him to change overnight.
