It’s from Celtic folklore! I didn’t describe it accurately earlier but the “coats” are actually the selkie’s seal skin, and wearing the skin lets the selkie shape-shift between human and seal form. Reading all kinds of folklore is really interesting because there so many stories that take inspiration from them.
Thank you! I will try to further cheack about selkies. They are kinda fascinating. I had seen a video clip before about a turtle who turns into a girl when its shell was broken but she turned into a turtle again when she saw and put on a new shell.
I’ve been thinking ever since she first asked for the leather, that Ms. Miller is a selkie. Selkies are seals that can transform into women on land by taking off their coats. In story I know, a man could take a selkie’s coat to trap her on land
