The hug scene almost made me cry, and I love that what Ilya thanked him for was "sending me to Hanu" because that was the best thing his father ever did for him. The king is very stoic and isn't good at showing emotion, but I do believe he feels remorseful, and Ilya, deep in his heart, also cares about him, at least enough to go back to this barren land one last time to see him.
