Motherhood

There’s something interesting in both of the control devil and war devil as the maternal figures in chainsawman: that each of them represents what Denji and Asa want (based on their lack of maternal love)
For Denji, Makima is his desire for stability and security. Since Denji’s mother died from a heart disease, Denji has had to face poverty, abuse, and other forms of trauma since he was a child. While yes, Makima is seen as a maternal figures, she symbolizes the security and stability that Denji craves..she’s the literal control devil: Control can be a form of stability and security..something that Denji never had as a child since he has to grow up fast.
Now for Asa, I feel like Yoru represents a sense of responsibility and protection of a mother. Hear me
out, but from what we see is that Asa’s mother often takes the blunt of hard decisions (killing her husband, pushing Asa away from being killed as a devil) and shields Asa. Now something that we can agree on is that Asa is a person who self-sabotages herself and refuses responsibility at times for her own actions. Yoru can be seen as a maternal figure for shielding and protecting from threats and responsibilities (like when she was protecting her from falling devil and switching bodies whenever things become too stressful for Asa) while yes that Yoru is arrogant and selfish…you could also say she is protective in her own way like a mother. War can be used to protect something.
(Or maybe I’m spitting bullshit)
