Theory:
The step brother of the ML, was the King in their past life AND he probably asked Jiwon (from the past) to ward off the Mountain God to make way for the new village (you know, the burning the mountains thing). Since Jiwon's Shaman Grandma is having a hard time, he'll probably take over and face the King (the ML's step brother in the present).
MAYBE that's why the 2nd lead was introduced early on to aid in the storyline.
All these are assumptions and my own take on how this is going.
