I might be wrong and kindly correct me if i am, so back then I think there was a time that kids were made as a sacrifice to the mountain God/Spirits, Jiwon's fatewas one of the chosen kids but her grandma was the shaman so she's doing everything in her power not to let that happen even changing jiwon's name to ari, now that jiwon's grown and her grandma's still there to protect him, but due to old age i think she can't stop what jiwon's fate is so it's taking a toll on her body,
