For me personally its bc its a common trope. Also this just makes ml life revolve around mc. Its going to be the typical he never dated anyone, slept with anyone or actually moved on instead he pined over mc this whole time. I get the author is going to say that he was busy raising his brother and what not, I just wish it took another route. It would've added more drama and gives ml character more depth but perhaps the author didn't want prolong the story

MC never dated anyone during those seven years either, so it was kinda mutual... Their lives revolved around each other in those seven years.
I definitely get what the commenter is saying, it’s very common for authors to make the mc’s lives revolve around each other. It would be better to have something different but there are definitely better ways to execute it without it being his kid. i’m grateful it’s not his child, it definitely would’ve caused new problems to arise within their relationship.
