So I started watching the anime and I have some issues. I know this might be a controversial opinion, but Claude is too nice in the beginning (of the anime). I imagine they were probably worried about starting off the show with a dad who is a total asshole to his daughter and literally doesn't give a fuck if she lives or dies. But the complete 180 that their relationship goes through is what's good about it. She thought he was a total asshole in the beginning, and honestly, HE IS. He spends a lot of time threatening her, and frankly gives the impression that he does things more for his own amusement and curiosity rather than out of affection and concern for her. It's specifically noticeable in the lake scene. She has a moment where she pops up out of the water and realizes he does not give a single shit whether she lives or dies. But while he's absolutely a piece of trash through each of these moments and it's definitely understandable why their relationship could have turned out like the "original" story described, the fact that they manage to bond and genuinely develop affection for each other is only highlighted by the foundation it's built on. I don't think it's going to be the same and I'm a bit sad by it. =/
