I think it’s because you lose any stakes in the story. Competition arcs are fun because there’s a sense of “if they don’t win this round, then they can’t debut or get first place” or something like that. Theres many onlookers so all of their actions are closely regarded and we get to understand how their actions affect their popularity from an outsiders audience perspective. However, once the competition is over, there really isn’t as much stakes and it becomes more similar to a slice of life idol story, rather than something more proactive, like competitions and missions for them to complete.
It’s why I love debut or die so much. Theres a very long competition arc and even after their debut, there’s still stakes in the story to keep it interesting!! It’s both an idol story with also mystery involved!
funny enough right after I wrote this I caught up to the recent debut or die chapters and thought huh "not getting that bored feeling yet"
So I guess there's that too.
I'm sure the idol day to day is fun for many but I wouldn't be looking for a regression idol story if I wanted normal idol stuff.
Speaking of idol stories I started "The Rogue Producer Survives as an Idol" a few months ago and it's genuinely entertaining. even without the competition part purely carried by the mc because of just how practical and to the point he is.

I'm not sure if it's a me problem, but I find idol stories get really stale if they started off as a competition and the competition finishes. Maybe it's cause I stopped being a stan in 2021 so I'm already not into idols anymore, idk, it's just meh to me right now
