I think it's bc in Emotion, the two guys met in high school as well, and the top was lowkey bullied by the bottom, which in turn formulated a deep obsession in the top towards the bottom which followed them into adulthood. Here, it's a similar setup, except the top was being bullied and he was shown compassion from the bottom, and a similar twisted obsession rooted from there
And both of the crazy protagonist don't understand emotion. I read too many stories so it takes me a minute to remember them all. Lol.
Crazy emotionless characters may just be his bag. He's damn good at surprising us, that's for sure.
