Don't get me wrong it's still great but the first time I read it I couldn't stop reading it.
But right now, I think it became a bit.. lacklustre?
I think it's because first, it looked like a Mystical Escapism from an abusive family. Like the fairy forest and the monoliths was honestly so creative. I thought we would see a fairytale. Like Narnia!
But alas, it was just a small tidbit so we get to find out that the Emperor is actually being controlled by a dark being.
Then, the sweet revenge for the abusive family was there but it didn't really happen that much and more like most of the family got reformed.. and given a chance? Despite the abuse that MC was inflicted...
Another thing, maybe because MC was OP, the fight against the emperor was kind of meh.. because you already know that they would win. It was predictable even in the end where Bael managed to hide and inflict a blow only for it to backfire. In a way, it's great we don't get to be sad since no one died.. but it felt underwhelming and anticlimactic?
Also, I saw someone said that they're a bit emotionless.. and I agree. I don't want to say it's from the art because the art is so lovely. It's probably from the sudden chibis and jokes or the pace of the story? but somehow they weren't able to wallow in other emotions like they move on too fast except the cheesy love so I can't really empathize with them as much.
So all in all, I think it's because I was looking for something else. Like I was looking for the mystique from the mystical forest which was just a subplot and the revenge for the abusive family which neither delve into.. Although, I did kept reading for Adele and Hexion. Their relationship is just too good. May this love find everyone.
