I swear I'm trying...

... but I just CAN'T enjoy them being lovey-dovey when I still genuinely do not see how the fuck Ichimura has the guts to say he loves Nishino after he straight up just did NOT care about the wellbeing or feelings of the man he supposedly loves.

Nishino states mutiple times – to Ichimura and to others – that he is unhappy with this marriage being decided for him and did not plan to follow through with it, and has confided to Ichimura how much he hates just having to shut up and accept decisions his dad makes for him in general. It changed NOTHING in how Ichimura treated him and the situation.

To Ichimura, Nishino has to bear the duty of being the business' heir by marrying whoever his father chooses. He takes Nishino's dad's words practically as gospel, and believes the sucession hierarchy should stay as is. Everything Nishino is fighting against, everything Nishino does not want to let stay as-is, is essentially sensible in Ichimura's eyes.

The only explanation for his thought process not being simply a direct replica of Nishino's father's is that regardless of how he himself felt about it, he thought Nishino's feelings on the subject (the arranged marriage) would be ignored by his father or that, in the future, Nishino would just "marry another woman anyway" – so Ichimura thought he would get ""discarded"" either way. And, apparently, that's the only thing he manages to care about, because not once does Nishino's distress over this situation even seem to register. Ichimura does not show, at any moment whatsoever, ANY empathy towards Nishino. You can go back and check panel by panel for yourself – Ichimura only ever thinks about how he's going to get hurt by this marriage and how he is impeding on Nishino's duty. He does not even *acknowledge* Nishino's unwillingness.

When Ichumura talks about "not getting in the way of Nishino's goals," he has known for a veryyy long time that Nishino's goal was to do what he wanted (generally) – but apparently, that just didn't register, and somehow that goal now is something Nishino needed an arranged marriage in order to accomplish.

It seems he truly does not understand why Nishino wants independency. Therefore, he does not understand how any of this could make him unhappy. Therefore therefore, he can just ignore it when Nishino tries to be vulnerable and express how distraught he is that he is being put into this position.

If *this* is what Ichimura considers to love someone, then I feel very sorry for Nishino.

...

Ahem. Anyways... I'm probably getting way too heated about this, but I just needed to rant a lil bit ╥﹏╥

SAME HERE, SAME HERE. I don't think the author realized how much of a deal breaker that would be for many of the readers
