(Additional Spoiler ) The romance only starts to take shape around chapter 57. Gairlont actually went as far as kissing Hailen to express his feelings, but instead of reciprocating, Hailen distanced himself right after. It’s honestly frustrating to watch after all that slow buildup. Even after three years, Gairlont still hasn’t given up on him—but I can’t really blame Hailen for keeping his distance, considering all the trauma he still remembers from before his regression.
However, thanks to Gairlont’s persistence and the sincerity of his feelings, their relationship will eventually start to bloom, as Hailen slowly begins to see Gairlont as someone completely different from the man he once knew.
not sure if i would call this slow burn, i eventually dropped the novel because all you read is a lame civil war/court story that, imo, is really not worth it as such (especially since the english version is MTL), for a story that has 250 chapters w/o the side stories (more than 500k words) the romance is ...not that deep but slow and repetitive and what feels like 1/4 of those 500k words lol
i think it's more bearable to read as a manwha (even then tons of regression clichés) since it's a lot faster, but honestly, romance wise i wasn't sold despite it having all the tropes i love (regression, strong beautiful uke that suffered, strong talented ml who is into the uke)
(spoiler) mc is monopolising the ml for his own benefit and rejects him over and over again, but is gay and physically attracted to him and of course down to fuck, and gail is basically 1 braincell filled with hailen after regression, the only BL interactions at the "beginning" are cliché and not really romantic (e.g. the wet dream that makes gail realise his attraction lmao, typical jealous/obsessed ML, we also get a scheming fiancée), and after that it's obsessed (black) ML who would die and kill for his love and a tsundere uke who fucks with the ML but rejects his love because ... well his birth secret? that gail only learns about in chapter 200 out of 250! and of course gail doesn't give a shit bc hailen is his god
i find the MTL hard to judge, but there's a lot of exposition, dialogue exposition, 80 side characters, including their POV, and clearly no editor ever got to cut around haha, so by default the manwha will be more show than tell so i think it will be an okay read
can't really recommend the novel tho
I really appreciate the novel spoilers! In the manhwa raws, toward the later part of Season 2, Hailen often teases and flusters Gairlont—he’s constantly blushing, and he was especially thrilled when Hailen told him that he had broken off his engagement. This playful side of Hailen started showing after Gairlont rescued him from a duel with the enemy prince, who intended to seriously injure Hailen to trigger a war between their two nations. Thankfully, since Hailen had already regressed, he was aware of the prince’s scheme and managed to stop it. Still, the war ends up breaking out—but for an entirely different reason.
Does it also happen in the novel? Because there are some adaptation that's different from the Novel.
Thank u for your honest review! I usually go straight to the novel once i finished reading the manwha if I liked it but I'll heed your advice for this one. I just finished a novel with the same dynamics like this one (Obsessed yandere ML) and (Tsundere in denial but sexually attracted MC) but I find the story though simple, but strangely satisfying and wholesome. I wonder if you have seen it already? I recommend the novel: My Pet Rat is an S-Rank Awakened

I read the raws up to Chapter 75 (end of Season 2), and here’s some spoiler:
There will be a war, and the enemy prince is nothing short of a tyrant—a deceptively charming madman. What makes him truly terrifying is the sharp contrast between his cheerful, innocent demeanor and the darkness lurking behind his smile. Outwardly, he’s all warmth and friendliness, but beneath that façade lies someone who revels in manipulating others. He’s set his sights on Hailen, thrilled by the promise of chaos and conquest—completely unaware that Hailen himself is just as unhinged.
It’s shaping up to be a clash of madmen, and that alone is thrilling to imagine. Meanwhile, Gairlont believes Hailen joined the war out of loyalty to the first prince, not realizing that Hailen’s true motive is to make him a war hero.
Additional spoiler: When Gairlont shows jealousy toward those close to Hailen, Hailen is secretly delighted—hoping he can make Gairlont his own knight, not the first prince’s nor the royal family’s.

Hailen’s true strength lies in his brilliant military strategies, while Gairlont shines as a genius swordmaster—a compelling and powerful combination. I love that Hailen finally let go of his obsession with wielding a sword and allowed Gairlont to surpass him in this life. In doing so, he embraced his natural gift, and that’s where he truly stands out.
Additional spoiler: The romantic progress between Hailen and Gairlont is developing nicely, with Hailen beginning to reciprocate Gairlont’s feelings.

This manhwa leans more toward plot development than fan service —so far, we’ve only gotten a wet dream scene and a kiss, but the storytelling more than makes up for it.
Season 3 is going to be absolutely wild!
