Korean and Japanese have similar grammar and I know in Japanese, once you know the subject, you can drop it from the sentence (including pronouns) until the subject changes. Thus, when someone puts this through a translation program, it will autogenerate the pronouns based on what it's last subject input was (his mom.)

Only thing I can think of as to why. The same problem is there in Mandarin too, though it's because they have only one pronoun so it isn't gendered. I've read several Chinese novel translations where I will be in the middle of the conversation before realizing either who they are talking about or even who is saying what sometimes.
