I actually like the way you worded it. Except for the "...along to..." Sounds prettier without it.
I think it's the way the author narrates that makes it very hard for the translators to convey the story properly. If you read her other works, they're even more confusing...(〜￣△￣)〜
If you look, those have the sane translator.
