i feel u soooo bad like he truly comes across as a hr nightmare and someone really unprofessional; even worse when we try to draw parallels with how this would work in real life, cause dude would come across as flat out racist T_T like i question why they wouldn't screen out ppl like this for a position like this but since they are essentially cops, i guess shitty management and people being unfit for their roles is pretty accurate ( ̄∇ ̄")
I think the reason the uke decided to stay at his job is because he’s trying to face his fear. He probably thought that if he kept running away, that fear would never go away—so it’s better to confront it. In chapter 1, you can see he’s trying to act normal around the beastmen, which is already a big step for someone who’s traumatized after losing his parents. So I feel like if you only look at it from a management point of view, it doesn’t make sense—it’s more about the psychological side too.
The thing is that the death of his parents is not recent. He's been trying to confront his fear with this job for how many years? He's known for not having a Beastman partner and is against getting one. He prefers to work more solo than to get get a partner. At some point, it's just reckless. Yes, he is traumatized, but with his job, the priority is the public. There is a point where he has to come to the realization that what he has been doing doesn't work and that he is a liability to himself, the people he works with and civilians.
In real life, it as if a cop became traumatized and started freezing up or becoming trigger happy in important situations. Not being able to predict their next move or headspace makes them dangerous. It's a question of responsibility to others.
i think @mint's later reply was perfectly put and summarizes the issues that are prominent and present with the bottom's fear of beastmen that is just flat out unprofessional and even borders on harmful.
you say think about it more from the psychological side - okay, then let's think about the psychology of the people that's affected by this and hurt by his demeanor/disposition shall we? like, idk if you've never been a part of a marginalized community or what, and have only experienced being part of a hegemony or a ruling majority in society but like... you know people can sense when others are irrationally afraid of or dislike them, right? especially if the only observable or notable cause of it isn't anything bad that they've done, but simply the fact that they look different or are a part of a different identity class, even if the offending party tries to hide their prejudice. that's why the whole concept of microaggressions exists.
essentially, that's what the bottom is doing by not trying to properly treat his fear while staying in a role where he has to work closely with beastmen of all kind, especially beastmen who are in vulnerable and traumatized states considering his line of work. now, how about YOU consider the psychological side of the beastmen who are victim to traumatizing situations - maybe having gone through hostage situations, violent robberies, assault, etc. -, and probably having experienced discrimination from humans beforehand, only to have to come face to face with the fact that the person who is supposed to be their lifeline being someone who is afraid of/dislikes them? and then consider that in that situation where they are helpless and completely dependent on someone who is afraid of them, they have to contend with the fact that they might not make it out in one piece because the bottom's fear is a very real hindrance towards his work ethic when beastmen is involved.
like, considering all of that, it's not weird at all to raise your eyebrows and side eye the bottom for somehow being allowed to stay in this line of work and also for continuing this line of work without properly treating his fear.
The thing is he's not prejudice, he's just scared. The mc is still kind to beastman, doesn't make fun of beast man, isnt micro aggressive towards them in anyway what so ever, and he still helps beastman without a questions ask too. He just gets startled a bit when aproched by a beastman. Its like if you saw your family get murdered by a man right in front of you, of course your gonna be cautious of them. Better analogy is if you get attacked by a dog, your gonna be 10 times more cautious towards them, but your not gonna go abuse any dog you see.
nope, this analogy falls apart because as much as beastmen may look similar to dogs, they are still SENTIENT BEINGS capable of making INTELLIGENT and DELIBERATE choices, and having overall COMPLEX COGNITIVE PROCESSES that allows them to possess abstract thoughts, self-awareness, and a grasp of language to communicate - which, guess what, is also the working definition of what separates humans from actual animals like dogs. also, in the other case you mentioned, you know damn well that if the person murdering your family is from the same class, cultural identity, etc. and virtually has no visible or notable differentiating features - for instance, an upper middle class family is murdered by someone who is also visibly upper middle class, then you'd be wary of THAT person specifically and not people from the upper middle class in general; however, if said family was murdered by someone who can be visibly perceived to be from a lower economic class then this differentiating feature will magnify the fear you feel to the point that you'll make sweeping, biased generalizations and become wary and scared of poor people in general.
an ACTUAL apt analogy would be white people being scared of muslim people in general because they think 9/11 is representative of all muslims, or white people being scared of latinos because they think that every latino is somehow a drug-pushing cartel owner, or white people being scared of black people because they think that every black person is somehow involved in gang violence based on what they've watched from racist networks like fox news, or straight people being scared of the gay community because they think gay people and trans people are somehow all pedophiles and groomers. THESE are analogies that would fit, and if i put it like this, then obviously you'll see what the problem is. and if you were smart, you could clock that these people may end up unconsciously externalizing these biases and prejudice that were shaped by their experiences watching various news and media, even if they try to unlearn these things and even if they don't mean it/don't realize it.
i just think its very stupid and ignorant and overall very telling of you to say that "he's not prejudiced, he's just scared", as if the very basis that births prejudice and discrimination isn't FEAR, specifically people fearing the unknown when coming face to face with other people who are different from them, and then choosing to go with that fear and rely on stereotypes and a biased view of whole entire populations instead of trying to bridge the gap of the unknown and getting to know these different people for themselves.
Not saying you're wrong, but being scared of Muslims because they cause 9/11 is totally different from being scared of people with similar appearances to the person who killed your parents in front of your eyes because it triggered your trauma.
He's not biased or prejudiced against the race. Logically, he knows nothing is wrong with the beastmen, but he has PTSD. Beastmen trigger his trauma response.
He's still unfit for the field job as a policeman, but he's definitely not xenophobic.

From a management perspective, I don't think the uke is qualified for his job position. Team collaboration and interactions with the general public are required in the course of the job, and in critical situations reactiveness and communication are important. His fear, which seem to have been untreated since his youth, affects his situational awareness and may hinder his ability to provide information and reassurances correctly (ex: in a hostage situation) and in turn may cause others to be unable to trust him in critical times. Especially considering that since the incident, Uke has been in regular contact with Beastmen. Unless he undergoes treatment and shows signs of improvement, he should be transferred to another department that better suits his habilities and current head space in my opinion.
Anyways, it's not that deep but this situation got me "not the best"( ̄へ ̄)
