When I think about it, the fact that Paula is being called ugly by Vincent is one thing, but it's also the fact that it's through the eyes of a man (Lucas) who loved her and thought she was beautiful/lovely. And I'm clinging on to the hope that Vincent doesn't actually think she's ugly, since he was just repeating what Robert said, but still.
