I know it may feel like that, but personally I see it as Ian acknowledging that he’s had an overwhelming impact on Jo, and not a good one. Ian just got a massive reality check that he’s hurting Jo. I’m going to sound crazy when I say this but Ian is not good for Jo, like TJ isn’t good for Ian. They bring out the worse out of each other even if we may interpret it as a testament to their undying love for Ian, when in fact, it’s so deeply flawed. This is genuinely the tipping point of their relationship. Jo has been put through an emotionally draining yet high alert relationship, and the stress is finally catching up to him.

TJ not wanting to leave the mafia and Jo willing to do anything for Ian, even if it means tossing out some of his morals. And Ian being in-between them. Lowkey I think they're all morally grey characters since none one is good for each other. And with this, if Ian didn't chooses tj or jo, would there ever be the possibility of him meeting the "right" person for him? He's been involved with the mafia for song, he probably has some habits and way of life that will be hard for him to get rid of. And would tj and/or jo be willing to let Ian go completely if that did happen?
You got it. Although, I’d say they’re morally grey in the context of the story, rather than their relationship dynamics. They’re not good partners besides Jo. Ian plays this “push and pull” game but he takes it to ann extreme. Ian won’t ever meet the right person acting like this. He creates dependency within his partners, and then disappeared whenever he feels… i’m not even sure what Ian feels. Afraid? Dissatisfied? Anyways, we both know TJ would never ever let Ian go, that’s his day 1. Jo would probably struggle but i’m sure he will let him go eventually.
Sorry I was trying to say like because their morally grey characteristics(?) within the story, the choices they make, it's impacting their relationship with each other, imo. Like because of the questionable actions they do, it starts to negatively effect the relationship they're trying to have with each other. Hopefully that makes sense, I'm kinda bad at putting my thoughts into words I feel like Ian feels this scaredness/anxiety within the relationships he's created. I'm not sure how to describe the type of anxiety I get from him in these relationships because I feel like it's a mix of many different things like PTSD, fear of abandonment maybe, I'm not sure what else but I feel like there's more. I also get the sense from him that he's not even too sure what he's looking for in a relationship, if you know what I mean.
Idk…I feel like it’s kinda a cop out for Ian to stop Jo after all this shit. You’ve brought him to the brink of losing himself how many times already? Like idk. This whole “don’t do this, it’s not you.” Just seems phony to me. Or maybe phony isn’t the right word but something about this just feels underwhelming
