I've wondered that, too. I see it with romance fiction from actual published books as well. I guess the cuteness factor plays a part, but it give the father a ~sense of purpose~ to see a young kid. Like he can totally be a better man for a four year old, but not for a twelve year old. I think it also has to do with keeping the kid closer in age with potential siblings. The reunited couple has a better chance of having more kids if they're closer in age.

i wonder something why are the kids often still in a very young age, like 4,5,6,7,8 etc before the rude bastard father shows up in these omegaverse stories? is it because it´s cuter in a way or is it bacuse most authors just like doing the stories that way? i don´t have any problems with it, i´m just curious..
i don´t think i have ever read a story where the kid is like a teenager before the father finds them. i wish there was a story like that. to see how it would turn out and develop.
