Frustrating

Ch 56, Luke is actually starting to piss me off. I get that he trusts people have more good in them than bad, but Bruno didn't just make some "mistakes", he intentionally and continuously agreed to do things that harm Luke, to benefit himself.

Maybe bc he sees Andrew's hesitations to interact more with and trust others, he's trying to overcompensate by sticking to his "people are generally good, look at me who believes in everyone" schtick in hopes that Andrew won't get even more suspicious of others or affected by worries. But still, Luke is straight up in denial at this point, it IS that serious.

I personally think the author is very good at showing us that both of them process incidents through very anxious lenses and that always affects how they communicate. Thus they're trying to change the other to respectively meet each other's "security" standards in life.

One is afraid of ppl harming Luke bc these have been his experiences and it's his priority to protect his life, while the other is afraid Andrew won't be part of a community that - even if it's superficial - stick to each other and harmoniously coexist, with the least possible conflict.
Hence, neither of them is really allowed to be who they are, bc even small deviations from what they each think is "safe" makes them anxious.

They have yet to really accept and trust each other, and that can only be done by understanding that there can be leeway in their views, 'different' doesn't equal 'danger of collapse of their whole system' and gradually asking/learning what each other needs and reaching compromises so they are fulfilled, while still not forcing unnecessary change onto the other. That way they'll also more likely be encouraged to acknowledge personal issues and make conscious changes as individuals, for their own well being.
