Yeah, I agree, the only reason I think she could've spoken up more is so that she may at least have possibly been able to free herself from the dog... and thus not have to endure also the additional daily torture of her phobia, on top of living with her cold husband)... but NOT because I think the dog's absence would have magically turned him into a better husband (too self-centered for that, this guy; with this trait, he would've ended up finding some other excuse to be unkind to her).
BTW, I think the dog was kinda vindicated in the latest chap (chap. 32): while we all know the issue wasn't "just the dog," I feel like she'll be able to overcome her phobia now that she realized that Verde (the dog) actually *loved* her all this time, if what the ML said is true, that it didn't attack him because it smelt her scent on him (poor Verde!
