I enjoy the compelling, psychological type exploration of dark themes, especially peculiar fetishes, and in that regard I appreciated the rather wholesome twist in a story with a tragic, bloody set up, but the resolution of a seemingly very dreadful, almost disorderly sadistic fetish the main char suffered from seemed rushed and too easy. I wish the tension between love and rationale, and sexual compulsion and extreme sadism was explored more apart from the wet dreams/nightmares.

It would've been interesting to see a man of justice fall for a man with a violent, sadistic fetish who is struggling to hide it and have the ML see more and more of that darkness, to the point where he stares in the abyss long enough to discover his own, and vice versa - the sadist realizing how he wants to love who he loves, not just hurt him to get off (ying/yang). Instead, it went like - yay, the power of love, a seriously messed up fetish got cured by it, woohoo. Disappointing.
