People like Go Gyeom and his friends are real lowly life. They will always live their lives miserably, trapped in a shitty town, and even if they manage to escape, they'll still be trapped because of their closed-mindedness. Being a lowly life doesn't have anything to do with your wealth or status, but the way you treat other people, how you live your life, whether you leave a positive or negative impact on others, and your core morality.
Anyway, this reminds me of the Korean queer film, Nightflight (2014), which deals with school bullying, homoerotic friendship, queerness, poverty, and acceptance in a small neighborhood. The plot is quite different but the vibes and some themes are similar. I recommend you guys to check that out.
