At first I was understanding the story exactly like you said, but after more chapters I realized that these elements are not going to be well developed correctly and it will focus more on the typical abused uke, then I went to the novel and got my confirmation. I recommend you to lower your expectations regarding on how the story will develop his personality and anxiety, because that will not be well developed here and rape will happen a lot.
God i didnt expect myself to cry lmfaoo wtf, i feel so sad for him. I totally get why hes so fixated on this guy especially given his circumstances. I think its also interesting because of his low self asteem and bad circumstances, he’s written to be getting attatched very easily and it bordering on becoming a bit much due to what seems like mental health issues, but we only see it from his perspective and how it might be just him one sided. And how he doubts himself a lot, and might be reading into things too much etc. His social anxiety feels quite real, as someone who suffers from autism and struggles really badly in social situations and how i feel about myself afterwards
I see people saying “just an mc who cant do anything for himself” but i personally really didn't see it as that and kind lf makes me sad thats what they took away from this. I think this is an mc who just really struggles with social anxiety, how it spirals and the ups and downs, and his situation.
