Why would Yeonwu take into account the words of someone who has tormented him, threatened him, and has been stepping on him since day one (she even threatens him again after telling him about the drink), instead of feeling comfortable at a party being thrown by his partner who supposedly loves him, in the house where he lives? The thing is, Rosa was right, and it was obvious to us readers, but from the character's point of view, it isn't. And regarding his job, we don’t know how, why, or for how long he worked there, or whether he was already experienced. All we know is that he served Suryeon exclusively for over two months
At the start, there was two people that talked about him being a gigolo and thats how rosa started to connect the dots that he’s a boytoy. You can’t separate his work experience and his character. Fucking rich ladies with lots of kinks probably already made him do a lot of shit including drugs OR at least he would know about what Rosa’s referring to since it looks like he worked at a pretty elite gigolo bar. Everyone knows that shit and for the author to still push the agenda that he’s innocent is just poorly written. They’re trying to push this naive archetype character where experiences dont matter when its not. Sex work is inseparable from drugs, violence, and power abuse. And to write a character that has this “white lotus” persona even tho he’s IMPLIED to have fucked a lot of old women is putting off a lot of readers, that’s why so many people were so against him from the start and still is. Cause it doesn’t add up.
And also, taking precautions when someone warns you to be cautious is a sign of being a normal person, even if that’s your opps warning u. And what, he’s just going to go with a bunch of women to drink? Ain’t yall so consistent with using “red flags” then how come he gets off scot free when he DRINKS with a bunch of women as the only man there at a party being thrown by his lover? That’s pretty “red flag” to me.
The scene with the two people you mentioned happens in chapter 2, and it’s not stated how long Yeonwu worked there. They basically just comment that it’s a shame Yeonwu quit because he’s very handsome. And he’s not as naive as you’re saying, he knew about the drink. He literally says at the beginning of the chapter that he doesn’t see what’s so special about that drink, and after drinking it he remembers what Rosa said and says he didn’t feel anything. It only starts to take effect after he leaves, which confirms what I said about him not trusting Rosa, because as you said yourself, he’s already used to this kind of thing but that backfired, because it turned out to be worse than he expected. This is confirmed when he thinks that it was something different, but when he’s about to say what he thinks it is, he’s interrupted by the gardener.
Now put yourself in the character’s place: "I’m here at my own house, at a party my partner is hosting, and this girl told me about some drink (something I’m totally used to, by the way), and now she’s threatening me and stepping all over me as always… oh, and she just told me that if I don’t get out of her life, this is going to kill me" All of this is about how Rosa doesn’t talk to him like a normal person.
As for him going with "a bunch of women" if you go back to the end of chapter 14, you’ll see that there were men in the group too, and it’s literally shown in chapters 14 and 15 that the room they’re in has a bunch of people both men and the women and after the woman kisses him, he stops her immediately and leaves so what are you even talking about?
“He doesn’t see what’s so special about the drink…” pls bsfr omd bro. If some stranger gets you a drink why tf are u drinking it. And even if there were men in there too, why tf are u going with another woman basically CLINGING to your body at a party being thrown by your lover?? You can literally see in the chapter that the woman is on his body almost and he just pushed her when she kissed him, is that his bottomline lmfao? He just drinks the shit they gave him after being warned by rosa?? He didn’t think to get in his thick skull that OH maybe rosa warned me because there’s some degenerates out here in the party that preys on people with low backgrounds??? “What’s so special about the drink” maybe the special thing about the drink was the roofies that he should’ve been on guard with at the start when rosa, his biggest opps EVEN warned him about! And as you’ve said, he’s totally used to the drinks then he should’ve known that drinks handed by strangers can be roofied since he worked at a bar as a gigolo that should’ve known the rules by now like the back of his hand so then why tf is he being so naive about it?? The concept of not being cautious when you’ve been warned and has the background of working at a bar… even cynthia erivo wouldn’t think of that concept LMFAO and the two guys talking about him quitting should be interpreted as “oh dang, our best gigolo quit, what if his usual customers go to other bars now”— which should suggest that he’s been working there for some time now, even rosa thought that he’ve fucked a bunch of women when rosa’s fuck buddy investigated him. It just doesn’t make sense for him to have that naive character when he’s been exposed to all kinds of low— in the foster system, foster family died, no choice but to be a boytoy, work in a bar, be a kept man and we still got an almost innocent archetype??? Did he not get a character development after suffering all that long??
Simply put if you work at a bar, then get through your thick skull that strangers can and will roofie your drinks. So your argument of him not giving af about the “special” thing in the drink is absolutely bullshit. Even non-club goers know how to be cautious about the drinks they personally brought around strangers, what more of a former sex worker like him? And to think he just drinks it a like second grade schooler that got handed a capri sun by his teacher omfg lord orz
Yep exactly my thoughts...You're spitting out facts through and through.
And I do agree this is a mistep on the author's part rather than Yeonwu's. I mean the author did say they wanted to reverse the gender roles in this manhwa but why use the lame "white lotus" naive FL on him especially when it feels so out of character for someone like him who used to work at a host club...Like sure I agree he might have not started working there out of free will and did it only as a means to pay of his debt and I also believe that he had innocence in him and is not all twisted BUT after working there for years you would except him to have learnt his lesson well and you know have shed that innocence by now...So yeah I could not take him seriously in this chapter with the whole drugged drink scene... Like Rosa even warned you mf! But I did feel for him when the gardener came in... And also judging from his body language he has been harassed like that before probably while working cause he looked traumatised...Which again makes his personality kinda inconsistent with how the author wrote him...Cause how can have he been through shit and yet still have zero cautiousness at times and only react at other??
Also I hate the mother more and more with each chapter...She is no lover! I mean which lover sends their man to such a party to begin with and without warning?? And she even dares say she wants to marry him and make him Rosa's step dad...To me she just seems like a possessive old woman who wants to keep her new boytoy up close hence the whole marriage fiasco. And putting Rosa through all that for this...She is just so creepy man.

Wdyfm he’s a gigolo boytoy for rich older woman and he can’t even get into his tiny pea brain what rosa meant, if you’re a gigolo you’re exposed to these roofies, drugged alcs, etc. so why tf is he surprised? This is such a badly written push over naive archetype bruh lmfao
