Honestly i have a theory that makes things so much worse.
What if the reason the mom broke with the dad was because the curse she was given gets transferred to the last person with her when she dies, which is probably MC since she died during childbirth. So she basically did it because she loved the dad so much that she would rather have MC die so that he wouldn't get cursed after she's gone.
It's a bit of a reach but what if the curse is something cheesy like it transfers to the person you love closest to you or smth and expected that the dragon clan and MC wouldnt love each other at all, effectively making it so that MC will die and the curse ends there.
