I get why some people are mad when the mc made himself "the most important person" in the psychopath's life, it is pretty selfish to make a person dependent on ypu then betray them but ( IN MY OPINION) we also gotta realize that the psychopath lead the rebellion involving innocent people. The mc also didn't have a choice because he was trapped (he didn’t expect the situation to turn out that way) therefor he had to make the dude trust him for him to escape. And indeed unlike the great estate developer the mc here is more selfish and reckless but in the end he do more good than harm and he does cherish his people
