I actually ALSO got spoiled before I finished reading the story, and tbh, I was a bit disappointed about it. I didn't even wanna continue anymore cause the ending just sounded so stupid, but I decided to power through anyway since I was enjoying the plot.
And let me just say: I'm glad I did. Cause honestly?? People who spoiled shit, made jokes about it without tagging it as spoilers, don't give out any context whatsoever, because the ending actually, PERFECTLY fits the storyline as if it's been building up on that for years now. If you're just reading the story, it's gonna be such a satisfying yet bittersweet experience to read through all that, so don't get discouraged by the spoilers!! Enjoy this webtoon! It's fucking amazing!! Some parts are unnecessary (probably because the author couldn't fit that one storyline with the adults company somehow) but the interesting characters all make up for it, so I can't say I'm disappointed.

SPOILERS TERRITORY NOW!!! This will be long since I love Donald and Gray so much.
///
Donald getting hit by a truck at the end actually fits his character, and no, it doesn't feel like a boring way to end someone as amazing as him. Jake Ji literally says that Donald is fucking tired of it all, that he's waiting for someone to stop him from spiraling even more, because he already went out of control. He just needed ONE person to stop him, and then he found that in Gray, the only one who can stand beside him in intelligence and cunning.
FUCK i still cry when I remember that scene but Donald finally comforting his child-self who never had time to grieve, who never had time to actually be a child and CRY, is so hard hitting. Because he was able to have that moment due to Gray's interference. And you know what happens in real life when someone finally acknowledges what they've been running away for so long?? They break down.
It would be so easy for Donald to just cry and move on finally from everything that happened, but he dug his grave through fear and violence. And we all saw through Gray's experience what it looks like when someone who wants to live peacefully makes others fear him through violence: some people admire them, while most would develop GRUDGES. Donald has so many enemies that someone already came to beat him up even if he was already down, but of course he got through those obstacles; cause that's the way it had always been in his past and his present. He's a monster who knows how to fight and survive in that kind of violent world.
But you know what's different at the end?? This time, he knows about White Mamba's, Gray's, existence! So when he had his mental breakdown and got hunted immediately during it, he was back to his current self where he cant grieve in peace, and what does he do? He looks for Gray again. Because Gray is the one person who, like I said, interfered with his messy life and gave him a chance to breathe and be human again. He didn't care about anything else around him. He didn't care about the union, the castle he built, the past, he just wanted to "fight" Gray again and be back into that space where he could mourn the death of his mother and the suffering of his child self. He knows Gray understood his silent cry for help, but of course, Donald had dug his grave too deep. In reality, not even Gray would be able to help him. Even if he disbanded the union, made up for the people he terrorized, visited his mom for peace, he would still be hunted down by everyone who knew him because that's how he lived his life: he made people scared. He angered people. He put himself on top of the food chain and now he can't have a moment's peace, even in theory.
That's why it's perfect that Donald didn't care if he was looking desperate, asking for a rematch in the middle of a fucking road. He didn't care if Gray was shouting for him desperately to get out of the way because a car is gonna crash onto him. He didn't care about anything anymore, because at that moment, he just wanted everything to stop, and that's impossible, unless he's actually dead.
And he did.
Gosh I'm tearing up just thinking about how much he suffered. Donald is so fucking strong for enduring everything, and boy do I love him not just because he's a good villain, but because he's literally a product of this capitalistic and violent reality.
The author also gave us the worst fucking 'what-if' of all time: What if Donald had met Gray first before he became like that?? Even Donald admitted he would have been good friends with him. In fact, both him, Gray, AND Stephen would have been great friends if they had met sooner. Stephen was the type of guy who helped out the poor and tried to ease the suffering of other people, so if he met Donald, he would have found a way to give him a place immediately, whether it's through donations or just policies he'll win in competitions. And Gray? He's the ride or die friend who didn't care about people's authorities or titles. He wouldn't care about Donald's Special Aid title because he's poor, he wouldn't care about Donald's appearance either. If Donald is just decent to him, and is actually making an effort to live his life, Gray would vouch for him wherever he goes. PLUS THEY BOND OVER THEIR INTELLIGENCE AND SMARTS IN MATH AND STRATEGY. IM SO FUCKING PISSED AND SAD AND DEPRESSED THEY DIDN'T MEET EACH OTHER IN THAT FUCKING OLYMPIAN COMPETITION
Fuck Bryce or whatever the fuck his name is. I need him gone and be replaced by Donald instead. FUCK IM GONNA WRITE A FANFIC WHATEVER THE FUCK CAUSE THE AUTHOR COULD HAVE ENDED IT ALL IN JUST THAT, BUT THEY JUST HADDD TO ADD THAT WHAT IF SCENARIO. THEY JUST HADDD TO ADD THAT FUCKINGG "WHAT IF THEY WERE FRIENDS"
if you got through all that, kudos to you. just know that im crying while typing all of this out, cause fuck this shit fr
