I dont see the cowardice at all. Nor being weak. In their world she really is less than cattle as a slave, the fact that she met the previous lord and ML are huge miracles. And all her actions and decisions are all on point with their logic. Probably the only almost almost unbelievable development is the waste disposal system she came up with.
