I don't think the author is trying to make us forget Abt the traumatic scenes like u said instead jaekhyung himself said something along the lines of "after how I treated him how can I tell him to stay". This chapter is specifically showing that jaekhyung knows he did very wrong and that the things he did will never go away so he is now finally coming to terms with his emotions and is apologizing in his own way. Sure u may say a sorry isn't enough and it isn't but he is trying. This is character development. A person cannot change themselves overnight. He is trying slowly but surely he is. The main point is he is still trying. This really fleshes out jaekhyung more and makes him more realistic and humane unlike current mls on the market who don't apologize after graping. THIS is a complex character and great story writing
All of this but specifically in fantasy genre indeed. If it was ~Great~ story writing, with the want of it to be realistic and heartwarming, it'd end with them apart and getting better and developing on their own
