You want to know the truth? His novel was released this year, but the author said that his story was the first she came up with when she started with omegaverse. So his story has always been planned.
And I enjoyed reading it, he is an interesting character, crazy and a riot. He is actually my favorite character now, but that doesn't mean that he didn't do same insane shit in the past and it's true he caused trauma on Chase, because that is also part of the character.
Would Grayson rape his dominant omega brother? I don't think so (and a single dominant alpha can't rape a dominant omega, but it could be the other way round. Grayson knows that since he is friends with Keith, but I doubt Chase knows that). Would he rape a dog? I don't think so either. Actually I don't think that Grayson would rape anyone.
The thing with Chase and the dog, there he panicked, he was afraid that Chase would go crazy or die. But nothing happened. Problem is he uses his fear to make him go to the parties to release pheromones ( with injections, that Chase doesn't know), and for Chase it's possible that it happened, since he can't remember but knows a dog was there. Sadly no one told Chase the truth, and he is suffering from that.
I understand, and I don't see you as a bad person for liking the character after reading his novel, but understand that from my point of view, this character doesn't fit as a ML and someone I'd find myself rooting for to have a happy ending. It doesn't help that you also mention more fuck-up shit he did to Chase, lol. even if the novel actually explains his actions and thoughts, at the moment, for me, they are unforgivable
This is fiction you know, liking or disliking a character has nothing to do with real life values, as long as it stays fiction and you don't mix it up.
Would you like someone like Chase in real life, you remember what he did in the story? Those are also no goes for me, but I like his fictional character, but for other reasons than Grayson.
All those dominant alphas in the author's story are more of less psychopath.
I also read KML from the author, the ML is absolute trash for a very long time.
And I also read the other Miller stories, so I actually know pretty much about Chase's family.
But I read Kiss me if you can a long time ago, years ago. And I knew Grayson from Kiss me Liar before. And also knew that he would get his own story with Dane before I read KMIYC. So that manhwa chapter doesn't have the same impact on me than it has on you.
Grayson will appear later again, and he will appear in the side stories.
I understand it's fiction, that's what I meant when I said I wouldn't judge your character because of it. but even though it's common for the author to create this type of character, there are still certain factors that determine the successful construction of a male lead that people would want to support. It's more about narrative construction than about morality. And this isn't a manhwa that immediately strikes me as psychological, so applying the personality of a guy I'd see in an episode of NBC Hannibal to be the male lead of an ABO manhwa (that's more slice-of-life), it does not make much sense narratively. everything Grayson said in this chapter is very horrifying and shocking, which is why some comments are saying "this seems to have turned into a horror" precisely because it doesn't fit with the narrative structure. I know we're reading manhwas, which are written from korean novels; it's usually kind of silly, but I'll still critique it just because I've been reading these for a long time
The stories of the author can come out pretty differently, there is also one I'm not sure if I want to read it, it contains torture etc. And one that will be released in the future about Keith's omega father I'm not sure of it.
Grayson is a more complex character, you find out more about him later in the story. It's ok to hate Grayson in Chase's behalf, and yes he has some issues and is crazy, but he actually cares for Chase which will sound strange to you. But he is like in KML a side character, so you don't know much about him.
I was interested in his story because I was curious about his character, but also because his pair was known from the beginning. If you know Dane and that he is on top a dominant omega, putting those two together promissed to be interesting.
Most readers read it because they wanted to see him get karma, but I also saw a lot who started to like him or at least didn't have such a negative view of him anymore, and those read KMIYC before. But there are also still readers who hate him. His character is a bit different than you anticipate him to be.
Concerning how the universe of the author works the manwha adaption doesn't do a good job. They skipped things concerning the secondary genders, gammas where mentioned at the beginning of the novel. Also that dominant alphas who manifest too early have problems with emotions, that Chase manifested and has emotions but his dominant alpha nature made him violent etc.
But that also means that they gave kid Chase the wrong eyecolor. In the flashback Chase's sister wasn't shown etc.
thank you for sharing your perspective. I find what you said about the manhwa skipping some information from the novel's universe quite interesting. I think if it were better constructed, it would be an ABO manhwa with a more dark psychological approach instead of the romantic or slice-of-life vibe it has now (in my opinion).
that's why I wasn't shocked when, in Roses and Champagne, Caesar acted psycho; it made sense because of the mafia universe. I think if the dark tone had been there from the beginning, Grayson's character wouldn't seem so shocking right now, and I wouldn't be thinking "wtf?? lol this psycho as male lead wtf", it would be more of a "oh, that makes sense, maybe his partner matches his crazy".

and this guy have a novel all to himself? lol wtf how can anyone support him after this? in one chapter he admits he would have sex with a dog, force others (his brother) to have sex with a dog, and could rape his own brother. how can he be a male lead somewhere? this is the type of character whose destiny is to be painfully murdered
