Chase froze, his body visibly tensing. Josh’s voice softened, filled with regret.

Slowly, Chase lowered his hands. The shock on his face was unmistakable. Josh pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead.
“He only said that to scare you… because you kept rejecting the truth.”

“You were always sedated with injections,” Josh continued, his voice gentler now. “And the reason he kept it hidden for so long was because you kept rejecting your Rut. So he tried to scare you into accepting it.”
