Assault in this genre happens a lot, but this one appears unconventional to me: He not only unrepentantly assaults, forces, and degrades his former friend, but also that guy still sticks around despite being treated worse because of "love". (This may happen more in real life, but I barely read this in this type of story.) Honestly, I think neither of what they may have truly felt is love; but perhaps that is their perception - that they love each other like that: one willing to hurt his beloved, and one willing to endure the hurt his beloved gives him, despite no one being happy about it. Seeing his passive, accepting way - only drastically doing something in the last chapter - but all out of love, I think they are truly fated. Otherwise, dark-haired guy would've left ages ago or at least resented the light-haired guy, whether or not there be love; and the light-haired guy would've tried to apologize or mend things after, or at least distance himself for both their sakes. (I think that's what tends to happen 7-8 times out of 10 in these kinds of stories...)
It just seems off that after all that happened they became normal lovers with a happy ending; but I guess that's exactly why they're fated.
