yall need to give this a chance! ngl i thought the ML was pretty pathetic at the beginning bc he abandoned the mc and then asked him for money, and i also thought the mc was so wack for being so hung up on his ex that he stopped playing baseball, but the author does SUCH a good job of slowly pulling back the layers to show us that it wasn’t that simple, and it’s like we’re learning what they each loved about each other along with them! also, the author does a great job creating real, down on their luck characters. I’m not talking about Kim Dan type “i’m in so much debt and i need to sell my body etc etc,” its a much more day-to-day kind of down on your luck. its so easy to write a story about a prodigy ML at the top of his game etc etc, but its so hard hitting to see the reality of what is like to feel like you are at the top of the world and then you sink so low that you dont feel like you can get back up.. and then…. you DONT get back up. but you keep going. and i think that’s really what this story is about. i dont think its a story necessarily about being the best and then screwing up before getting back to being the best, its just a story of how life really is. You screw up and sometimes you just have to live with it and grieve who you used to be. I love how pathetic and messy they are it’s very soothing and relatable def stick to this one its worth it!
