I just finished the novel and MAN THAT WAS A ROLLERCOASTER. It's a happy ending and there are supposed to be side stories, including alternative otome-like endings with other male leads (they haven't come out in almost 5 years though so I kinda already lost hope lol). If you want to know the male lead/culprit is scoll down....... (BEWARE that the suspence about who the culprit is is basically the whole plot so if you don't want the mystery/thriller part ruined DON'T READ! This is only for the crazy ones like me out there who prefer to know what will happen before reading :D)
The male lead is: Arthur, which may seem obvious but I assure you that at one point IT WASN'T because the author actually made us (at least me) believe that he was actually the real culprit all along in the last volume.
The culprit is: As you may have guessed.... it's more than one. All 3 actually. BUT it's much more complicated (and different) than what some comments I saw are saying. The other 3 male leads were NOT all just in it together and taking turns, all 3 DID rape him at one point but it all just happened. Let me explain: The real ORIGINAL culprit, the hooded one we're currently seeing, is Jean (quite predictable I know). He was the only one who raped him the first times UNTIL after that one time in Jean's bedroom (yup, there was no sleeping Jean under the covers, it was him who was raping him): the one looking through the door was the duke, who after that got interested in tormenting him (I'll explain why in a bit, they're all fucking crazy). After this first manhwa season, Eda is going to be raped in the library during the day (he kinda realized it was different because the culprit wasn't mocking him like usual and it was during the day etc.), and THAT was the duke. The last one, Lancelot... actually raped him OPENLY towards the end but was surprisingly not that involved until that point. He kissed him in his sleep but hadn't raped him yet. At one point they (consensually I guess?) slept together due to some aphrodisiac, and from that point he became even more obsessed and then eventually raped him without even hiding himself.
The finding out about what happened was so stressing wtf! Nothing much happened for 2 volumes (they're 3 in total, the manhwa covered volume 1), with the suspicions going in circles, and then: - First, Duke Artino told Eda that he was a witness at Jean's bedroom (implying that he's innocent in that aspect) - then Lancelot openly raped him (and was then killed by Arthur while in the act, bohoo), and they suspect he might have been the culprit - then they find out that... the duke was in an incestuous relationship with his now dead half sister and went crazy, killing every family member, once she committed suicide, and SURPRISE! Eda is actually also the duke's half sibling who escaped the carnage 10 years ago. Yep, you know where this is going :D. He came to the monastery planning to kill his lost brother but found him similar to his sister and developed an obsession towards him as well - then, after finding out that the duke is his fucking BROTHER, Eda discovers that he raped him as well UGHHHHH. This makes him think (or better, hope) that he was the sole culprit - the duke then ALSO gets killed but they don't know by who. At this point they're just stupid for not realizing that Jean, the last remaining one apart from Arthur, was another culprit LMAO (Jean made them believe it was suicide but come onnn). But yeah at that point Eda realized that there are more than one culprits because the duke only raped him at the library, he's basically gaslighting himself. - Remember that scar on the foot that Eda was looking for when washing feet to identify the culprit? Well, he found it on Arthur's foot while they were making love and planning their future together. The exact same scar. At that point let alone Eda, EVEN I was for a bit convinced that this was the true plottwist, that it wasn't Jean (who I thought was obviously the culprit since the beginning) but the male lead all along. My jaw DROPPED (I actually low-key think that would have been a GREAT actual plottwist) - Eda fights with Arthur because of it and, desperate, goes to seek refuge to Jean and they have sex - What a surpriiiiise Eda realizes that Jean was the real other original culprit (the scar was actually a temporary wound caused by the shoes they wear in the monastery, so with holy water the fresh wound on the culprit's foot was healed after the rape), he tries to escape and while Jean caught up and was raping him Arthur arrives AGAIN and stabs him - Eda realizes he loved Arthur all along, enough to die for him, they declare their love to each other while they're about to die engulfed by fire and the volume ends with them being saved by the Queen's soldiers who open the monastery's sealed off door. End of the main story!
I really hope that a side story of Eda and Arthur living together comes out because WHY END IT THEREEEEE (idgaf about the others, they're all batshit crazy and I won't like them even if the author makes them not the culprit for the what if :/)
Feel free to ask questions if there's something else you're curious about! The manhwa is taking waaaaay too long to come back after all, I suspect they might cancel it or something
