Basically, MC has a bad insecurity where he wants & needs to be useful to someone to feel like he's loved / worth it / be comfortable.

This was brought about by the trauma of their mother leaving them because she got tired of bearing all the financial burden. At the time, I THINK the MC interpreted it that he wasn't good enough / useful enough for her to stay.

Moving on, because of this insecurity, he's super anxious with his FWB relationship w/Chiaki (ML), w/whom he fell in love with, 'coz the guy isn't very vocal with what he wants. He's uneasy if he's giving enough to garner Chiaki's love / if Chiak likes him enough becuase the latter isn't demanding or requesting for anything (MC's 100% a giver & feels weird otherwise)

The good news is! Our stoic ML, is also very much in love w/Asami (MC) & has tried to hint so every now & then. Unfortunately, MC's insecurity is so strong that it always went over his head.

Now, enter Takara. He's a needy & demanding childhood friend who satisfies Asami's need to be of service to someone.

Both ML & MC became jealous over this guy. MC thought ML has a newfound interest w/Takara, making him uneasy. Whereas, ML wants to free MC from being Takara's servant (so that he can be "solely his" I think, 'coz at the time MC's giving a bit too much attention to Takara who's treating him pretty badly to be honest)

To do so, he decided to fulfill Takara's most recent absurd wish: getting a dolphin's earbone. If he's successful, he'll offer it to MC, ask him to free himself (kinda like Dobby & his sock) & confess his love as the clincher. WHICH HE DID.

And now, both parties know it's mutual & they are official.

Unfortunately, the brat, Takara, appears to have belatedly realized his feelings & is now unwilling to let Asami go, leading to the most recenr chapters.

AGAIN. since most of these are interpretations, I might've gotten some wrong~

And. I honestly wrote this for myself 'coz i got kinda confused as well~
