MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW

I too got impatient and found some English translation of the light novel. TLDR: it's probs gonna be another 100 chapters before we get an actually happy moment for the couple, but they have to go through a few misunderstandings because of Elko (eye patch guy) sabotaging letters.

Ari will break up with Cesare and he leaves the capital embarrassed and heartbroken.

The current arc will end soon and we enter a time skip of five years for the war to end. Alfonso wins and comes back home. During this time A LOT happens. Isabella is married to Ottavios and pregnant making her a noblewoman coming back from the convent as her hoe self, Ippolito is running around doing nothing but does make some connections, Cesare lives in the South doing adult things with women who look like Ari nonstop because he's a loser, Ari is still a boss babe despite never hearing from Alfonso, and he "sends" her a letter when arriving home stating he doesn't even want to see her.

Jumping ahead it was Elko who sent this letter to sabotage their relationship because it turns out he's jealous and spiteful, having been super attracted to Ari but he couldn't do anything because she was his boss' lover. He purposefully hides letters from everyone on both sides, even Alfonso's other staff who had lovers. He does badmouth her because his feelings of "love" morphed to jealousy.

Ari is incredibly hurt, but wears a cloak to go see Alfonso with Raphael as support as he parades through the city as a victor. She sees him and cannot bear that he broke up with her so turns away and cries, getting a hug from Raphael. Alfonso (somehow) sees this with his ultra instinct and concludes that she didn't write him back because she had moved into his best friend.

Due to the King Leo being a smarmy creep and power struggles, Alfonso is not let in back home and camps outside the palace with his army. There is some tension as they could technically invade the capital. During this does he sneak out and go to Aris house where they meet and interact at the stables. It is bittersweet because they do love each other but don't say a lot at this first meeting, but hug in hay. It is clear that they need to talk and will do so slowly over time as they interact, but they are busy.

Ari and Alfonso are kind of upset with one another and she does give him a tongue lashing later at a ball. Eventually, they get over some issues and everyone but Elko in Alfonso's party likes her. They agree to not consummate anything but kiss a couple times as Alfonso might technically be married to Lariessa (the crazy cousin girl). Recap: Alfonso was only let out of prison in Gallico because Lariessa blackmailed him with a marriage contract for his escape. IMPORTANT: in this world a marriage is not legal unless a priest witnesses it and files it with the church (Holy See). Since this was in prison and under durress, there is legitimate claim it's not valid, but they don't know if it was filed. Due to this Alfonso dates Ari promising to himself he will not touch her or publicly announce anything until he can be certain as he is a chilvaroua chad. Ari does try to kiss/escalate and he struggles to remain in control (for those who wanna know). They remain lovey dovey in private.

Up in the North, there is a "princess" (unsure if that's the accurate translation) who is a young girl that has no parents but heir to a large estate of Taranto. Her name is Bianca and her parents died young so the staff of the place raised her. Bianca doea not have experience in the real world as has lived her entire life at her estate. She is not the most attractive, large, stocky build that is awkward (the novels words not mine). She has become of age and needs to have her debutante ball. The king debates on marrying off Alfonso to her (he's like late 20s by now) but instead Also so suggests to be her guardian and partner for the ball with a spot open for a social lady to introduce her to high society, which is Ari so they can spend more time together. The old lady who raised Bianca is tough to deal with but they eventually come together for Bianca and Ari and Alfonso plan on what to do.

During this, at some point, idr Raphael confesses to Ari after seeing her with Alfonso and in love. He gets salty, but knows he's in the wrong and leaves to become a priest so he can't succeed his family home and to take a break from Ari. They will have a reunion later.


Elko is becoming super suspicious during all of this and actively does evil things under the justification of being the one for Alfonso. This is because of his twisted desire for Ari. Over the time of them dating and preparing for Bianca party he was not the sneakiest and Ari and Alfonso start suspecting him of stuff. They slowly move away from him which pisses him off because he lost his eye and arm for the army. With this, misunderstandings are slowly explored. Technically Alfonso pursues Ari until he wears down their defenses and they date, but do not fully clarify everything at once.

Lariessas father also makes an appearance, wanting to meet with Alfonso to discuss the marriage his name is Grand Duke Odes. He tries to meet with Alfonso to secure the marriage with the promise of Alfonso becoming the king of Gallico. That king went CRAZY after his sister died because they were... Doing adult things and a child was born from it (he's not an official heir bc yk siblings for parents this is important later but kid is not mentioned at this part of the plot). Alfonso considers this briefly but really doesn't want Ari to become his concubine like Rubina is to Leo and Lariessa being treated like his mom. Odes promises they won't even have to meet as husband/wife because he will keep his daughter away. At this point, it is only Odes who is present from the family and he is stressed at bc he's trying to install a new king with the old one still alive. They decide to reject his offer at the party and keep him at a distance while not communicating with him in advance.

The money that Ari sent to Alfonso through Raphael is not fully revealed to be her because of Elko. It becomes apparent that letters have been tampered with though.

At the party, a lot happens. To be quick, it goes okay for Bianca but Ippolito weasels his way in and approaches her in the garden which freaks her out and she DECKS him causing him to run away (important for later).

This is where fun stuff happens. Odes is stressed and approaches Alfonso and Ari asking for them to say yes, but Lariessa turns up and she actually BAT POO insane. Due to little communication with Alfonso and nobody ever telling her no, she shows up at the party with a mental breakdown in full force bc she's not a technically married to Alfonso. Lariessa also is super anorexic like skin and bones, poorly died her hair to look like Ari and imitate her. When they were younger Ari was skinny, but as an adult

As Lariessa has her breakdown, she shows up with several letters saying that the marriage is correct based on the communication between her and Alfonso. She disperses them everywhere, but it turns out she changed the spelling from Ari to LAri and people notice this calling her out. She gets arrested and sent to a convent where on her first night, she escapes and vows revenge but has a heart attack before leaving.

But how did she get the letters?

Well Elko is a traitor who was in communication with Gallico informing them of their movements. Several letters Lariessa had actually came from other members of Alfonsos party, and he got away with this because he was the administrator due to his eye and arm missing. The scene moves from the ballroom to a separate room where this is exposed and Elko is cornered by everyone. He then gets called out for doing all of this and it comes to light that he loves Ari, but couldn't get her because she loved his boss. The reason he lost his eye and arm is because at the start of the war, he volunteered to be tortured a when everyone was imprisones to feel better and he became twisted after that. Elko is then killed by Alfonso because he gave up secrets to the Gallico empire.

I don't remember exactly when, but it takes awhile for it to come out that Ari sent Alfonso the funds that saved him during the war, acting as a slush fund from his mother and Ari.

This is getting really long and I might type out another response with some more details about other characters and what happens after because Ari and Alfonso do get married in the next arc, but there's more political intrigue.

Isabella does get karma and drags ottavio (Aris friend's old fiance before he left her for Isabella) to ruin very quickly. It's a hilarious relationship waiting them suffer for being trash.

Cesare does show up at the party, but is late and doesn't see Ari however he still yearna for her deeply.

I binge read a lot of this recently but some details are fuzzy bc it switches POV alot and a lot of political manuerving go on. Some details have been omitted. Disclaimer: I read this on novel latte which does have some spelling errors. If you want to read it yourself, I would start with chapter 260 of the light novel from the MTL translation. It's not exact but I'm currently at 430+ chapters with 500 translated in English and the original ongoing at 700+ chapters. There is a ways to go, but things get better! We just have to wait more before Ari and Alfonso become happy.
