I don't know how to explain it. I hate Gyeom but at the same time I also don't. I like how the author has built him up? I like the power dynamic between him and Baekhee. How he knows Baekhee sore spot. He knows how Baekhee would always try to please him and do what he says. He enjoys it. His toxicities varies? And it doesn't feel lazy or messy like how other stories build up their antagonist. The emotional physiological abuse, the gaslighting, the power play are compelling? And Baekhee character especially as he is a teenager is very realistic. I see that some people are saying he is a pushover and annoying which I understand where they are coming from but it's so realistic.Yes he is a pushover and overly empathic person but I don't think it's hard to understand him and why he started to notice il-woo or that there need to be a grand reasons for being somewhat be drawn to someone. He keeps seeing il-woo around the convenience store. He noticed his expression. He felt empathic. He felt as tho they both come from the same place of hurt so he helped Il-woo .His constant cussing is also realistic. His smack talking even tho he knows damn well he wouldn't be able to fight especially because of his trauma. I can not tell you how many times I see these type of conversation in highschool where the a boy be talking a lot shit but he and I know for a fact, he can't fight. I also find it realistic how baekhee immediately ramble after seeing how gyeom saw him and il-woo next to each other in school. How he immediately try to be like "Shit what if that bastard knows about us..he is...." To Gyeom which I think we all have done a few time in our life to try to change the narrative of a situation but it lowkey just outing us and our guilty conscience.
