I think it had everything to do with weekly updates, long hiatus, Dan's "weak" personality, and jk's bad personality. With weekly updates, everyone was stuck just talking and repeating the chapters available and the ones available were mostly of jk being a piece of shit and then constantly comparing the story/characters with the story/characters of Bj alex which was a completed series and pointless to do. Iirc, Jiwon was also hated during bj Alex's updates, not as much because I'm pretty sure bl manhwas weren't really as main stream as they are now but it's been so long I cant really remember. However, I will say people were blowing it out of proportion with the hate jinx was getting online. It's also the reason I can only binge read series.

Jinx is honestly not bad. Rather ppl blew it out of proportions and a lot of new bl fans entered the bl fandom thru it and assumed its the worst cos of certain themes. But theres not even that much toxicity in it. Theres no rape or dubcon, Dan entered the relationship knowing full well what will happen and what his roles are. Although theres coercion with what happened with the debt collectors and jk paying it off on his behalf forcing dan to comply (tho he has options to pay it back in other means). Ppl paint jk as this horrible black flag person when he doesnt owe dan shit. Dan fell for jk on his own, and ppl are mad that jk doesn’t reciprocate. Dan Owes him money, heck even got advance payment that he still has to pay back which jk give in exchange of smth. Ppl assume that the mls would naturally have a soft spot from the get go when they are literal strangers with no obligation towards each other. (This is another reason some fans hate on characters cos they dont like them falling in love in 2 seconds, but also hate when strangers dont have soft spots for each other) Dan is soft hearted but he is doing his best. He knows his boundaries and doesnt act out of the line. But life is hard esp when the only person u have left is dying and u have limited options. He was strong, but he was tethering to spiralling down and the rejection tipped him off the cliff. Honestly it was a matter of time before dan break from all his burdens. What makes jinx toxic is the fandom. The fact that these ppl wished grandma dead just so dan would be free from his obligation (when its not forced, its out of love) speaks so much about how they interpret the story. Which is very poorly. What makes jinx great is majorly the art. And visuals, which is very eye catching, but the story is mid and full of cliches but its alright.
am I crazy or did I make it up in my head or what, but I always heard Jinx was a terrible poorly-written series. the internet went out at my home and so I ended up catching up to Jinx since it was downloaded on my phone and I enjoyed it??? I actually was always a BJ Alex lover and tbh I think the Jinx dynamics are very similar to BJ Alex but less comedy and more blood but like lowkey the same. I could say the cores of both plots are similar too. Mingwa's art was amazing too, like the proportions and the actions scenes designed to spotlight jaekyung's manliness (lol) and the facial expressions were all depicted so well I was very immersed in the story. I think there are so many more worse written BL out there that are ongoing rn so I'm just surprised that Jinx had so many intense haters this whole time. some of those bad BLs also have atrocious art and proportions too. Rich abusive top saving a poor uke drowning in debt has been done a million times but Jinx's version of it was done well! the uke was poor but we saw him competently work and look for opportunities for change because he's capable! he stood his ground, made his own decisions, and left when he wanted. I just really like how he wasn't depicted as a helpless child-like fool with "feminine" qualities who always needed to be saved by the top like I see in a ton of rich top x uke debt stories. And Jaekyung being an ass is just part of the author's preferred style, because they like to see a lengthy redemption arc haha. anyways I chose a good time to start Jinx because I think the end is in sight. y'all waited 3 years to get to this point? wow... *applause* But also, the pacing of Jinx wasn't bad either, like those poor uke stories that are badly written usually drag things out for forever, and have events repeat again and again where the same mistakes are made and the lessons aren't learned. but Jinx wasn't like that.

Jinx actually did make me laugh quite a bit, sometimes at the comedic moments but also sometimes the serious moments were so ridiculous and cliche (but still well done and enjoyable)
I hope there will be more depth revealed to Jaekyung and his perspective, I fear his redemption arc and story will wrap up too soon. like, I understand the uke as a person much more than JK. maybe JK is just more a simple guy than dan tho
Jinx has better 2nd couple and maybe side characters than BJ Alex imo.
DG is my goat as well as goat uke imo. I love his beret look and his eyebrows and everything. the worst thing about BJ Alex is that there wasn't enough DG.
