thoughts before chap 90

i wish i saw more people criticising ian as a character without resorting to blatant slut shaming, which just shows u aren’t even reading the story. doyak, the literal author believes he’s the worst of the three mcs which i dont rly agree w but says a lot. i also wish he got more appreciation bc he’s genuinely so well written but all of his struggles get written off as trauma porn. i wish more people appreciated his kind side, which we see w toby. his forgiving side, which we see w tj. his affectionate side, which we see w jo. i will also never understand readers that put him down to uplift their fav male lead, saying they deserve better. there’s literally nobody in the whole manhwa who deserves better than ian.

about joseph. well. my biggest gripe w the characterisation of jo rn is that he falls rly flat as a character, at least to me. i find it hard to connect w him in the same way i connect w tj and ian. and i dont think it’s bc he’s a normal guy and has no tragic past backing him up; i just find it a lil hard to understand him. we know by now that he’s ready to sacrifice everything for ian. he’s willing to kill for him, hell he HAS helped him kill somebody. i don't understand what exactly it is about ian that has him willing to go so far? this is NOTTTTT me saying ian isn’t deserving of somebody like jo; he definitely is. i think ian is loveable, kind, loyal, tragic. but jo hasn’t really seen all these sides. all he knows is is that ian is good-looking, good in bed, nice, has killed somebody, was in a gang, is entangled w a guy named tj. idk. i think i personally just find it a little stupid about how a normal guy w a normal upbringing is so attached to a guy he recently met. but that’s just my opinion. on the other hand, i totally get why ian likes jo; jo provides him w everything he has ever wanted and more. also, i feel like jo's entire appeal as a character is just how he’s the “better option”, and how much healthier he is for ian. if u remove that aspect, he honestly is a pretty boring guy to read about imo. he’s been getting more interesting though, ever since he saw ian kill that one guy. if him and ian really are endgame, i hope we delve more into his character apart from what he feels for ian.

i find taejoon the most interesting to read about by far. sometimes i’m a lil frustrated bc most people write him off as the Big Bad Villain of the manhwa when he’s not. he’s obviously made some terrible decisions, but i also find him extremely sad. i think a lot of people overlook the fact that he was quite literally groomed and molded by jason into being the man he is today. to have his walls up all time. he never really learnt how to love someone, and he admits that. the saddest part for me was when he bought that mansion in california for him and ian to live in. a lot of people thought it was doyak’s way of showing tj doesn’t know what ian rly wants, and that might be true, but i took it differently. in one of the earlier chapters we see how jason had promised to build them all houses in the future. jason never did, so tj took it upon himself to build one. it honestly makes me sad bc it’s apparent that he thought, okay, if you care for someone you build them a house. but then jason dies, and tj sells the house too. yes he needed funds, but i also took it as him finally moving out of jason’s influence. we see him questioning his decision to remain in the gang. after he almost gets into a car crash for the first time, we see him leaving ian without a trace bc he realises he values his safety above keeping him tied by his side. this doesn’t overwrite the decisions he made, obviously. but he is changing. it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s endgame, and he might regress anytime (lowk did at the reunion), but he is changing.

i wish more readers were ready to acknowledge the very real developments the characters are going through even if they aren’t rooting for said characters. when i see people write off wet sand as a basic love triangle it pains me bc it’s honestly one of the better written bls out there. it’s not perfect, but there’s so much more than the green flag vs red flag discourse that’s prevalent in the fandom.
