yeon tied the red string forcibly between him and kihoon, making them bound for each other in every lifetime. but kihoon is a burning red soul, who isnt supposed to be bound to anyone and yeon tying the string is what made him unlucky. yeon was also destined for someone else, but that string was cut after tying it to kihoon. the girl with the string is who yeon was originally destined to be with

spoilers for the plot so far! not sure if you're caught up.
the past life arc were going through right is already happening, and we know yeon is the one who dies based on previous flashbacks in the first season. also the rule at the end of season one, saying that either way kihoons bad luck will be broken, but if yeon isnt able to accept it (if he stops believing in fate/destiny and happily ever after, basically if he starts hating himself and blaming himself for kihoons misfortune and thinking kihoons life would have been better off without him) then hell forget *everything.* the girl will probably be brought up again once they go back to present, unless she was also his fated partner in their past lives before yeon changed it, but definitely getting brought up again either way. my personal theory is yeon WILL forget, and kihoon will be very, VERY depressed before yeon gets his memories back. so yes, definitely expect angst surrounding all of this :')
