I get that it's a thing, having characters say no stop out of embarrassment rather than actually disliking it and wanting it to stop, so it falls more into kink or fantasy, almost roleplay rather than just rape. It just still gives me the ick.
Can't we have his embarrassment shown through his thoughts rather than out loud? Since any partner should be stopping at all the stuff dan was saying, especially since this is the progress bit? He's supposed to be better now? He's still not listening unless he asks if Dan is ok first - yes that's good he's checking in, but maybe do that when he's literally telling you to stop. Or just take away the bits where he's telling him to stop!
I wish Dan had not said anything out loud and got more comfortable with it as they went along.
