Somehow it makes sense to me that he still chooses to have sex. Don't get me wrong I had a hard time reading this as well because of his asshole personality. But what I understand is that habits do not just go away easily, you may change mentality but only partially. And let's be fr he only developed for Dan not exactly how he interacts with others. So yeah, it just makes sense realistically.
As I said we all hate him being an asshole and we hated how he disregarded Dan's feelings. But at the same time, we don't know the author's direction for this supposed redemption arc. That's all I got to say.
