Hmmm

I think . . . I think it was scarily realistic. The emotions and art were so intense and realistic. It almost makes you wonder if the author experienced something similar to the story she’s portraying.

I do not like glorifying rape. Really I don’t like reading it under almost any context. There is no excuse good enough to justify doing that to another person. And, really, being an author who writes about it raises red flags for me. Yes, “writing is creative liberty and the art should not be a representation of the person”, I understand this is a common point of contention. But I don’t believe this.

Most people use art as a form of expression within themselves. If your form of expressed is through the imagery of rape, I can only imagine what sick fantasies you must have going on in your mind. Just because you don’t do anything to anyone, doesn’t mean you don’t think about it. And if art is a form of self expression, I become concerned that you think it’s okay to show the dark and ugly side of things like killing and raping someone. Art seems like the excuse to make those sick fantasies come to life. The publication and the incredible gains of money through something this sick is insane to me.

But, again, the story was interesting. The hopelessness, the agony . . . The Stockholm syndrome, the boredom that led to a mental spiral and then eventually to alcoholism- all of which incredibly incredibly realistic and terrifyingly intense. The manipulation of “I can’t escape, I have nowhere to go to anyways,” and the slow loss of your own reality and control of what life used to be like before you were trapped with someone so mind manipulating.

The physical and mental breaks all throughout were on point. The anger so powerful that the rapist almost lost all rational and went out to hunt and kill the MC. The addiction, the mental insanity of sitting alone, bored out of your mind. Even the panels where the MC wakes up and remembers the terrifying experience of being raped.

So, so incredibly interesting how the emotions and reactions were so realistic. The story never turned into romance really. ML is crazy and the author sticks to his character until the very end.

While I don’t like rapists and dark Dead Dove stories, I do entirely appreciate being able to keep characters personality’s consistent. If he’s an asshole, he’s an asshole until the end. A lot of stories deviate halfway through and change the character to be a soft hearted goodie two shoes just because they get attached to the idea of a happy ending or a romance. It’s unrealistic for a school bully to change in one chapter just because of a little crush he may have. That’s why I appreciate the Manhwa JINXS. Jeakyung is incredibly consistent with his personality through the entire series. I love it.

Same with this. While there was sex and eventual manipulated feelings developed, the story was meant to betray this entirely fucked up situation. The story was MEANT to be terrible. To portray the realistic outcome of this scenario.

That being said, the translator pissed me off. The blabbering was crazy too much to enjoy the first handful of chapters. If you don’t like and support it maybe don’t read it and take the time to translate it. Yes, rape is a no no. But that was too much to appreciate the art and the meaning behind the story, which I think the translator missed the point of. The story wasn’t about romance. It wasn’t about glorifying the rape situation. It was about making all characters as vial as possible because the whole story was a realistic take on what a bad person is supposed to be.

Anyways, those are my thoughts.
