I feel like this manga is too realistic to let him win. The storytelling right now really feels like that of your average competition based manga that focuses on the winners pov. They tend to be grounded in reality while still clearly being fiction due to certain parts of the storytelling that may seem more fantastical in comparison to the actual reality of it. In a manga that focuses so much on the ugly reality of the world though, the most fictitious part of this manga has continuously been takanashi him fucking self. It's unreal for such a selfless guy who cares a shitton for his students and also makes an effort to be an important figure throughout their lives to exist in the first place.

Though if he did win, it would be interesting to see how it would affect takanashis philosophy. But because of the parts where we see the students as adults, it doesn't look like he changed one bit.
