I've read this story multiple times and the situation with his mom pisses me off every time. She deserved so much worse. Not only did she tell everyone her son was dead, but then she acted like a victim about abandoning her child in a horribly abusive situation. She saw the family attack him after her other son died and then just... left him there. I don't blame her for leaving and wanting better for herself, but she got off too easy.
