did no one else see the erotic potential of a character using the obligations and expectations that chain them as a cover/justification to get into something they'd never otherwise be exposed to and exploring things they'd otherwise ruthlessly repress, with the added benefit of the self-satisfaction of self-sacrifice? that character deceiving themselves and maybe others about their desires, but eventually being forced to admit what they want if they really want to get it? no? just me? I mean, we could still get a variation of that, but I think it's more interesting/satisfying (and also just kinda rare) when a character has to agree to the things that compromise them or is cornered into honesty about their sexual desires without the out of someone else making that decision for them. but hey, I love the build-up of tension and slow burn.
