Geez, that makes a lot of sense. Honestly for a country as honor-bound, so full of scrutiny in public image, and honestly, just as strict as Japan is, no wonder she's like that. Frankly, I'm surprised she wasn't removed from her position as teacher.
To me, it's excessive to be so iron-fisted about all that, it was an honest mistake, and to some degree of misplaced trust, so it is excessive to my western worldview, but that's gotta be actually so terrible in Japan with how strongly perception influences day to day life. Remember, this is a country where people would rather end their life than demand better working conditions, and a country where you can be sued for defamation no matter if you're in the right or not.
