I really admire this manhwa for one thing: The fact that EY said "this is your last chance" to TJ and it felt... So... Real? We know EY ain't joking around, if TJ hurts him or his brother he's gonna unleash hell (even if heartbroken) while we know TJ really is that scared of messing up again.
But, I really admire how TJ interpreted "this is your last chance" as "This is my last chance to make EY the happiest man on earth", not "I'll spend the rest of my life showing remorse" (kind of? XD) TJ is almost paranoid about hurting EY but from my perspective, this truly is the best act of repentance one could ask for. He's not begging for EY's forgiveness, nor is he keeping a metric whether he gave EY more happiness than pain. His life mission is to make EY happy and his own life mission is to never forget what big an asshole he was to EY without EY knowing (By which I mean he's not looking for pity. It's like he knows he's going to hell, but he's gonna ensure EY's going to the VIP of heavens)
In other manhwas, sometimes I see the bottom give that pep talk that it was in the past, we love each other now, and the top just... I don't know, stays the same, but as if the mistakes or the situations that led to the mistake never happened. Like they just skipped that one bad season to the happy ending.
EY acknowledges the past was painful. He also acknowledges the present is the happiest he's felt. He's not directly thanking TJ or blaming him, that just reality. He's been hurt too, he needs his own time to heal, too.
I'm not saying I want TJ to feel this way his whole life, I'm just saying the time which he is spending in this zone is very realistic, I think. It doesn't feel like the flip of a switch like some others do. When I saw TJ and EY in their older years, that was really when I got that happy tingling that yep, they got out of the zone happy and are now each other's support equally.
It's been a long time since I read Waterside Night so I might just be glorifying my favourite bits, don't mind me,
