Correctly then in the novel the emperor is basically described as a psycho. He is unfeeling near enough so he doesn’t understand the difference between a humane life and that of an insect. He just knows how to love the mc, He’s never really sorry about what he did he’s just sorry that it’s like effecting him now (ie the one he loves). It’s been a while so I’m like not 100% on this what that’s how I remember it. The mc forgives him and I can’t remember exactly how but it lowkey was like “eh I kinda get it”.
